We describe a Community as a "[Family] of [Learner] [Missionaries] who make disciples who make disciples." These are groups of people committed to be the church, do life together, and take the Gospel to a certain part of our city. Each Community is focused on a different part of the city and desire to live out the imperatives of the Gospel in each other's lives and in the lives of others. A Community is NOT primarily a small group, Bible Study, support group, social action group, or weekly meeting. A Community is people doing life together in the Gospel.
The Gospel is more about Identity than Activity. Because of the Gospel, we have been given a new identity in Christ.
"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. " - 1 John 3:1
Family
We are children of God called to care for each other. God is our Father. Jesus is our brother and we are co-heirs with Him. We are a family together. We do what families should do. A Church Community is a small glimpse on earth of the perfect communion we will have with God and with each other in Heaven. We are a family by caring for one another, discipling each other, and hold each other accountable. We celebrate, learn, eat, serve, and work the Gospel out in each other's lives together.
Learners
We are learners, disciples, committed to the Gospel and what it means for us in our daily lives. We commit to learn and apply the Gospel in all aspects of life. We seek to develop personally and as a community through time with God in His Word and in prayer. Jesus called and gave example by drawing away to pray but by also teaching His disciples. Being a learner involves personal time with God and training together as a Community.
Missionaries
We are sent by God as missionaries to restore all things to Himself by preaching the Gospel and serving others. God sent His son, Jesus, to take on human form within a certain culture. He immersed Himself as a light within culture to redeem it. Jesus, God the Son, became a servant in all manners of the word. He served by washing His disciples' feet and laid His life down for us to bring us redemption. In the same way Jesus sent us (Matthew 28:18-20) into our culture to restore it with the Gospel and to take the posture of a servant by loving the people God brings into our lives.
