Ardent Church desires to be led by a plurality of elders. These men have been called by God and have met the qualifications in Titus 1 and 1 Timothy 3 to lead and shepherd the church and it’s members to pursue God’s direction in living out the Gospel in community and on mission.
Steven Castello, Lead Pastor
Steven graduated from Samford University in 2004 with a degree in Family Studies and is working toward a Master of Divinity from Birmingham Theological Seminary. After spending several years working as a youth pastor, Steven and his wife, Amy, felt called to come back to Birmingham to plant Ardent Church. Steven and Amy have 4 daughters, Lily, Addi, Karis and Amelie. Steven’s desire for Ardent Church is that we would be a people who exalt Jesus in all we do, live lives of Gospel intentionality and serve the people within our context as Christ would. Some of his favorite authors are John Piper, Charles Spurgeon, C.S. Lewis, J.I.Packer and Mark Driscoll.
Matt Waldrep, Worship Leader/Elder Candidate
Matt is currently a student at Southeastern Bible College. He will graduate in 2013 with his bachelors degree in Bible and Theology and hopes to attend seminary shortly afterward. Matt has served on staffs at several churches as a youth pastor and worship pastor. Matt married his wife, Heather, in June 2013. In the summer of 2012, God began to call Matt and Heather to Ardent Church. Matt desires to pour his life out for the gospel and look forward to doing that at Ardent. Matt leads worship on Sunday mornings during our worship gatherings. Matt writes some of his own music in his spare time. He is a big fan of indie folk music. He is also an avid reader. Some of Matt’s favorite authors are John Piper, A.W. Tozer, R.C. Sproul, Tim Keller, J.I. Packer, and Edward Blocker (Gunsafeguide.Net).
Heather Waldrep, ArdentKids Director
Heather is currently a student at Southeastern Bible College double majoring in Bible and Theology and Elementary Education. Heather’s desire is to work with children; to see them come to a love and knowledge of Jesus. She has worked with children in several positions including: daycare, preschool, children’s ministry, and baby siting and nanny positions for 12 years. Heather married her husband, Matt, in June 2013. In the summer of 2012, Heather and Matt felt called to Ardent Church and shortly thereafter Heather began to feel led to direct the children’s ministry. Heather’s desire is to pour her life into the families and children of Ardent Church and see the Gospel spread throughout Birmingham. Heather enjoys sewing, crafting, painting, and reading fiction novels in her spare time. She thoroughly enjoys the writings of J.I. Packer and John Piper.
